On 14 March, Europe Direct Valletta organised the third in a series of film nights as part of the campaign ‘thistimeimvoting.eu’ leading to the European Parliament (EP) Elections 2019. The screenings of the films were held at Spazju Kreattiv, St James Cavalier, Valletta, in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO), Malta.

Before the screening of the film, ‘The Other Side of Everything’, Ms Mandy Falzon, Head of MEUSAC, which hosts Europe Direct Valletta spoke of the functions of the Centre and the preparations ahead of the EP elections.

Sarah Jane Sammut from EPLO explained in detail to the audience the ‘thistimeimvoting.eu’ campaign and the importance of voting in the European Parliament elections on May 25.

The aim of this series of socio-cultural events was to lead to brief debates on the importance of the EU in citizens’ lives, encouraging participants to vote in the European elections.

Participants at the well attended screenings were also offered information and promotional material on the European Elections and were encouraged to subscribe to the ‘thistimeimvoting.eu’ campaign.

Synopsis of the Film

A locked door inside a Belgrade apartment has kept one family separated from their past for over 70 years. As the filmmaker begins an intimate conversation with her mother, the political fault line running through their home reveals a house and a country haunted by history. The chronicle of a family in Serbia turns into a searing portrait of an activist in times of great turmoil, questioning the responsibility of each generation to fight for their future.
